Job Description

Eurofins BPT-Columbiais looking for aStaff Scientistto join our Synthesis team located in Columbia, Missouri. The Staff Scientist is a professional level position involved in performing research in the laboratory as a synthetic and medicinal chemist applying the latest knowledge and techniques in the field. Advance the assigned program and contribute to the synthesis and identification of a lead or development candidate. Planning their own work and supervising day-to-day activities in the laboratory working under prescribed procedures (protocols, standard operating procedures, methods, etc.).

Duties include:

  • Conducting multiple-step synthesis using carbon-14C and tritium radioactive isotopes.
  • Preparation of stable isotope labeled compounds as internal standards in LCMS analysis.
  • Completing complex work for research and development under CGMP and/or GLP guidelines for studies, documentation, etc.
  • Planning conducting and monitoring studies to ensure data accuracy and report quality.
  • Writes reports on studies.
  • Providing complex analytical work on projects and studies using a range of analytical techniques and instruments.
  • Working with independence on studies and assignments.
  • Typically serves as technical leader within a group or team and may serve as project leader/study director on assigned projects.
The ideal candidate would possess:
  • Extensive training and experience in multi-step synthesis, and knowledge of NMR, UV, mass spectrometry and FTIR spectra analysis for interpretation of new identities.
  • Firm understanding of modern Organic Chemistry concepts, reaction mechanism, and the ability to use them in the design of synthesis target molecules.
  • Ability for conducting literature search for synthetic route development.
  • Separation techniques required for purification of organic compounds including re-crystallization, chromatography and TLC analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge in various analytical instrumentation, especially HPLC.
  • Adherence to GMP (preferred).
  • Superior knowledge of scientific discipline; basic relevant technical skills; ability to read and understand protocols, SOPs, and technical guidelines.
  • Compliance with, and knowledge of, regulatory guidelines and company SOPs (CGMP, GLP) is required.
  • Good organizational skills; ability to follow direction and good communication skills are required.
  • Ability to consult with clients and knowledge of date submission requirements for clients is necessary.
  • Superior skill in handling radioactive or toxic chemicals.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to apply principles of scientific thinking to a complex range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables where only limited standardization exists.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field such as chemistry, biochemistry, biology, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or other directly related field or degree with comparable coursework in the above areas and a minimum of five years of experience in a directly relevant setting.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field and three years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree and experience.
  • PhD in a relevant field may be substituted for bachelor's degree and experience.
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.

Position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00a.m.-4:30 p.m., with overtime as needed. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Columbia, MO are encouraged to apply.
