Description

Examples of Work

  • Assist Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) Right of Way designers with development of Geographic Information System (GIS) files and databases.
  • Input existing NDOT right-of-way projects into State's GIS database.
  • Use CAD files to generate a report to be used in the GIS database.
  • Scan and interpret project related documents to be attached into the database.
  • Research files of existing projects needing to be archived. Interpret right-of-way plan sheets.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIRED: Must be a three-fourths time student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned.

PREFERRED: Currently enrolled in a higher education program with coursework in Plan/Print Reading, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), or Surveying. Experience with CAD and GIS software or similar programs beneficial. Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

OTHER: Employment may be possible for up to 4 years with proof of enrollment in an accredited college. Class schedules must be submitted at the beginning of employment to verify enrollment. Applicants must be at least a three fourths time student and be able to work at least 10 hours a week when classes are in session. Temporary full-time employment may be available during scheduled school breaks. Employment up to 2080 hours or four years, whichever comes first. If employed to 2080 hours, student must take a 30-day break before returning to work. Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of GIS software.
  • Basic knowledge of MicroStation or CAD software.
  • Ability to: gather and interpret basic GIS information from various sources; apply basic methods for geospatial data input and analysis; work in collaborative team environment; communicate effectively.
