Job Summary

Support the college's goal of becoming a zero waste campus where diversion of materials from reaching the landfill is at or beyond 90%. In order to achieve this goal this position will perform various logistical functions, including sorting, loading, and moving materials, making deliveries and pick-ups on and off campus, serving as a support for surplus property, recycling, compost, and other waste diversion programs. In addition to these functions this position will also assist in maintaining the Center's facilities and assets. The position requires a hardworking, detail-orientated, focused and enthusiastic individual.



Job Duties
Job duties include but are not limited to:

1. Main duty - This position performs various daily scheduled waste, recycling and food/compost pick-ups. All aspects of the compost program are performed including educational outreach and site tours. Additionally sorting, loading, and moving materials; making deliveries and pick-ups on and off campus; serving as support for, surplus property and redistribution Performance is acceptable when: a. Materials are handled in a safe and efficient manner that benefits the college's zero waste goals. b. The college compost program is operating effectively and promoted in a positive fashion. c. Support for surplus property activities including collection, storage and organization, tracking, distribution within the college, and assisting with auctions is provided. d. Tasks are completed to the satisfaction of the job requirements.

2. Main duty - Provide exemplary customer service to clients and maintaining appropriate documentation within systems as a resource on campus to further sustainability initiatives. Performance is acceptable when: a. Exemplary customer service is demonstrated through cooperatively working with internal and external customers in day-to-day operation of receiving and processing order requests. b. Communicate and advise departments on proper policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Quickly and efficiently answers questions, resolving issues and/or places in contact with appropriate staff and/or supervisor(s) for further assistance. c. Interactions with campus community are positive and meaningful while advancing sustainability.

3. Main duty - Demonstrates ability to effectively multitask and maintain high levels of service, support, and organization to further sustainability initiatives in a safe and orderly fashion. Performance is acceptable when: a. Perform duties in compliance with all safety standard and guidelines and identify and avoid potential hazards b. Areas are maintained in a clean, orderly and safe fashion. c. Participate in cross-training within department and perform other duties as assigned d. Tasks are completed to the satisfaction of the job requirements.

Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.



Required Qualifications
JCCC student
Strong problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
Understand and relate effectively to diverse groups including faculty, students, administrators, supervisors, support staff, and contractors in order to translate college's sustainability requirements into operational terms.
Ability to conduct duties in a friendly, discreet and professional manner.
Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as accept direction on given assignments.
Valid driver's license and ability to pass MVR along with background check.
Travel required within local area and on campus.
The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 150 pounds with the use of designated moving equipment and/or other assistance.


Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of sustainability as it relates to materials management and life cycle analysis.
