Job Description Summary

Role required to conduct safety analysis and guide the complex integration of multiple automated driving sensors

Promotes GM's values and makes customer-focused decisions

Position Responsibilities Summary

  • Responsible for the functional safety execution for Ultra Cruise sensors, including camera, radar, lidar
  • Identify the safety strategies and ASIL levels of components based on their system functional context with Senior System Safety Engineer
  • Develop, perform, support and/or lead the execution of System Safety tasks, including: Safety concept and safety program plan; Safety requirements and traceability; Design analysis activities (functional interface analysis, diagnostics coverage analysis; DFMEA support), Integration, implementation and validation support, Final safety case/report development
  • Provide technical and safety process execution guidance to and review of supplier safety work products for accuracy and completeness
  • Collaborate with DRE, DSE, and supplier to ensure hardware/software integrity and to identify failures modes that would cause hazards
  • Lead formal and informal safety peer reviews for safety process work products and involve the assigned Senior System Safety Engineer as needed
  • Document safety standard methodologies implemented by product team for reuse by other product teams
  • Actively participate in and support safety related process development, process improvement and decision bodies if needed
  • Utilize independent thinking to improve the effectiveness of safety execution

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required; post-graduate education in engineering, systems or controls preferred
  • Two (2) years of post-graduation engineering experience required; five (5) preferred
  • Ability to travel as needed (up to 5% max)
  • This position requires legally operating a motor vehicle on a daily basis
  • Previous proven experience and execution of responsibilities related to System Safety, Systems Engineering, Validation and/or vehicle development in areas like:
o Advanced sensing technologies and vehicle integration

o Complex mechanical and electrical concepts and components

o Control system hardware/software implementation, integration and test

o Diagnostics

o Safety critical electrical hardware design

o Safety critical software design, development, validation,

o Software development / use of embedded controllers

o Application of ISO 26262 for Functional Safety task execution
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous confirmed experience with leading small and complex projects
