SUMMARY
Systems Engineer assists the CNI IT Department in performing engineering, operations research, integration, logistics, acquisition, research and development engineering program activities and continuous technical and programmatic support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Interacts with system users to translate their requirements into systems, hardware, and software requirements and design.

Participates in the development of test strategies.

Solves engineering problems (or manages the solution of engineering problems) in the functional area to which assigned.

Applies a number of diverse engineering practices, techniques, and processes to identify and resolve difficult issues, as well as ensure resolutions are consistent with program objectives, existing policies, and procedures.

Coordinates various phases of work with other functional disciplines and interpret/translate engineering requirements into design characteristics and criteria.

Helps plan, analyze, and evaluate engineering and technical efforts used to define system/subsystem requirements, translates requirements into design criteria, assess alternative design approaches, and develops system specifications.

Helps identify human factors necessary to operate, maintain, support, and control equipment/systems during the basic design and development stages.

Analyzes system/equipment to ensure it is operational when needed.

Helps determine the means to advance projects and evaluates significant modifications to production methods or materials due to changes in requirements, technological advances, or shortcomings in design and/or performance.

Evaluates and recommends procedures and innovative techniques and methods.
Helps manage program risk and recommend steps to mitigate unacceptable risk throughout the life cycle.

Develops, in support of engineering reviews and/or panels, evaluations and technical justifications of feasibility.

Presents briefings and develop technical reports to document progress and results.

Analyzes and studies performance requirements against a wide range of diverse considerations, including safety and human factors, technical risks, functionality, reliability, failure analysis, quality assurance, cost, and environmental impact.
Assists in the evaluation of technology, components, and systems by developing evaluation criteria, performing evaluations, and documents results.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five (5) years' of systems engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience.

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
Strong knowledge in MS office to include Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other software suites
Demonstrated experience with executing assigned tasks to meet technical objectives
Working knowledge and thorough understanding of testing, analyses and corrective action on systems, networks, hardware and software in a professional audio / video environment
Excellent communication skills
Solid organizational skills relevant to carrying out day-to-day responsibilities
Skilled in planning and setting up room requirements for events and meetings
Proficient in verbal, written and listening skills
Exceptional customer service skills
Excellent computer skills
Detail-oriented with ability to effectively multi-task
Ability to assist others in the proper use of audiovisual equipment
Ability to learn and apply new knowledge in a fast-paced environment
Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment
Ability to perform work in a collaborative environment with other organizational domains

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professiona1journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
