Summary

The Technical Writer will assist in the creation of materials supporting outward communication to the target community. This incumbent will work closely with the targeted community, key government and private stakeholders to develop content for posting on internal and external websites, manuals/help guides, training materials and educational presentations. Additional responsibilities may include ensuring documents meet 508 accessibility standards.

Essential Competencies, Duties and Responsibilities

These include the following and all other duties as assigned. The responsibilities listed below constitute an initial list of tasks that may be modified or expanded as necessary by the organization to maintain negotiated contractual obligations.
  • Under general supervision, reviews and edits technical documentation, including website postings for internal and external websites, manuals/help guides, training material, and educational presentations.
  • Assists in the development of educational material for the Quality Reporting Programs.
  • Assists in the development, review and editing of technical and business information working directly with our Subject Matter Experts to develop technical documents, official communications, and presentations.
  • As directed, assists in the development, recommendation and implementation of the technical documentation processes, and policy changes.
  • With direction, applies skills to resolve problems not covered by existing procedures or practices.

    Additional Tasks

    • Project deadlines may necessitate occasional extended work hours.

      Job Requirements:

      Education and/or Experience

      • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
        • Two years of technical writing experience desired, with a minimum of one year of experience as a technical writer in a healthcare environment.

          Other Qualifications

          • Knowledge of concepts, practices and proceduresfor technical writing.
          • Experience with research, analysis and with resolving problems.
          • Demonstrated skills in analysis, communication,writing andcollaboration.
          • Ability to work independently and take direction.
          • Must be a quick learner and be flexible.
          • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Visio, proficiency in Project and SharePoint are a plus.
          • Ability to utilize critical thinking skills to take concepts/processes and create documents that are easy to follow and understand.
          • Experience in healthcare and the Department of Health and Human Service is preferred; however, candidates with writing and editing experience will be considered.
          • Ability to assist in the creation of compelling and persuasive educational materials, write intuitive administrative and user manuals, assist in the development of training materials, meet deadlines, manage multiple projects and work well in a team environment and independently.
          • Ability to manage projects and track key deliverable dates.
          • The ability to work in a cross-functional team environment to assist in the development and execution of comprehensive solutions. Experience in developing web content, web-based training tutorials or 508 accessibility standards is a plus.
