General Description

Gibbs & Cox is supporting a DoD customer that is developing, testing and fielding autonomous ships for the US Navy. The company is currently expanding its Systems engineering team. This position will help document and validate procedures for multiple aspects of automated systems development. We seek a self-starting, team-oriented professional with experience in the maritime or autonomous domain.

General Duties

As a Technical Writer/Editor, you will do the following:

  • Support the system life cycle buy capturing product and process descriptions in formatted documents
  • Provide Customer deliverables for government programs
  • Provide content and technical editing of documents for clarity, grammar, readability and completeness
  • Conduct technical verifications of documents and procedures in concert with the technical team
  • Support the program management office in the collection and reporting of metrics
  • Prepare for formal and informal meetings, capture notes and send out agendas and minutes
  • Support the internal knowledge management processes for the program and technical organization
  • Maintain data item (e.g. deliverables) configuration management
  • Compile end of year reports and other technical documents from engineering inputs (i.e. not primary content developer)
  • Coordinate art development
  • Editing to conform to standards including IEEE, SAE, DOD, and Chicago Style, APA, etc

Minimum Requirements
  • Demonstrated superior oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in managing product support documentation
  • 5 years' experience in technical writing
  • Demonstrated record of work in large, complex hardware and software intensive systems
  • Demonstrated record of meeting cost and schedule obligations
  • Familiarity with techniques to resolves discrepancies and reduce complexity of work submitted from technical team
  • Familiarity in using Microsoft Office products
  • Familiarity with technical data package development for hardware, software and Integrated logistics Support
  • Willing to travel as required as an essential worker
  • Active US Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance

Desired Qualification
  • Familiarity with DOD acquisition products and Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) processes
  • Experience with content management systems and toolsets
  • ABS, Merchant Marine, or USN surface domain experience
  • Published works

Security Requirements

Applicant will be subject to a security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the US Government. In addition to the security clearance, this position may require an additional background screening for base access.
