Holman Automotive Group has an exciting opportunity for you to be help build out a brand new role as our very first Technician Development Advisor. The Technician Development Advisor will act as a liaison between the dealerships service leadership team and our automotive technicians.

What you will do:

As the Technician Development Advisor you would be responsible for the following:

Technician Onboarding

  • Work in conjunction with recruiting, HR, and hiring manager to ensure the process of onboarding, including the application phase, is completed quickly and efficiently.
  • Assist the service manager with all aspects of onboarding including but not limited to bay assignment, tool allocations, uniforms, parking, required training, work schedule and area familiarization.
  • Conduct bi-weekly check-in's with new employee for the first 90 days of employment.
  • At 90 days, work with the service manager to establish a technician development plan.


Technician Career Development
  • At the 90 day review assist the service manager to establish a technician development plan.
  • Assist the service manager to support technician development at all levels, including training plans, career path options, and individual goals; skill level and pay progression; and administration of the mentorship program.
  • Assist the service leadership team with manufacturer required training, including tracking, assigning, and scheduling, as well as any prerequisite requirements.


Technician Mentorship/Apprenticeship Program
  • Establish, support, and oversee a Holman specific apprenticeship program at each dealership, ensuring that the each location has a minimum number of apprentice technicians staffed, along with adherence to a Holman/Brand standardized development path.
  • Create and manage a Holman specific mentorship program to support the success of the apprenticeship program, pairing apprentice technicians with a more senior technician that can advise and train.
  • Work with the HR department and management to identify and execute action plans to improve technician retention.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.


What we're looking for:
  • 5+ years of dealership service experience in various aspects of the service department which may include some or all of the following: Technician, Service Advisor, Foremen, Assistant Manager or similar related work.
  • Experience or working knowledge of car repair and customer engagement.
  • Experienced in service principles, concepts and automotive service department operations.
  • Ability to work with manufacturer on training requirements.
  • Ability to counsel and objectively evaluate employees and their performance.
  • Duties involving judgment to work independently, devise new or modify existing methods, techniques and procedures to meet service requirements.
  • Strong organization and problem solving skills, with ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Applies expertise to improve efficiency and accomplish objectives within own area of responsibility.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to summarize and explain information to others.
  • Ability to work, interact, and motivate service employees and service related employees
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with ability to influence without authority.
  • Ability to explain automotive service concepts, process, or ideas to service employees and dealership management.


Education and/or Training:
  • High School diploma or GED; College degree or trade school preferred and 5+ years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Additional education, certifications, or other distinctions are a plus, including dealership and OEM required training.
  • Proficient in various desktop tools including MS Office Programs (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, SharePoint etc.)
