The Technology Transfer Specialist will optimize, stabilize, and transfer new products and processes to Operations in coordination with the Materion Technology & Innovation team. Utilizing the phase-gate process, this position will further provide engineering support in the areas of new product and process development, troubleshooting, and improvements in process safety, quality, and efficiency. The position will also research and propose new equipment, procedures, and methods to automate, improve, and/or scale-up existing processes. This role will support projects at all Materion Performance Alloys and Composites (PAC) locations with travel expected to be 25% or greater.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Ensure that safety and process hazard reviews are conducted for new or modified equipment and procedures.
  • Scale and validate new product processes in conjunction with the Technology & Innovation (T&I) team and Operations. Act as a liaison or project manager coordinating between T&I and Operations to transition products or processes into production.
  • Make recommendations for capital equipment purchases by evaluating metal processes and identifying risk areas relating to environmental, health, & safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Support Process Engineering to identify, design, specify, and drive innovative processing techniques for existing product improvement and new product development.
  • Train new technicians and operators on new product processes and specifics to ensure a successful transition of the product or process into Operations.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of R&D or Process Engineering experience
  • Experience in the phase-gate project management process
  • Experience in scale up in material manufacturing and successfully transitioning new product or process projects into production
  • Experience in a metal or chemical manufacturing environment preferred
  • Minimum travel expectation is 25%
  • Design of experiments and Lean Six Sigma experience preferred
  • Experience in SAP preferred
The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from having access to U.S. controlled technology (via a letter of assurance), or a Person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
