Job Summary:

The Chicago Center for Youth Violence Prevention at the University of Chicago is hiring field staff for a study of residents' perceptions of their neighborhood. Field staff will work with study team members to recruit adults living within specific neighborhoods to complete in-person interviews that will last approximately 30 minutes each.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting and interviewing residents at varying times of day, on both weekdays & weekends.
  • Respectfully engage community residents, explaining the mission of CCYVP and why we're collecting data.
  • Documenting the recruitment process and interactions with residents.
  • Recording, verbatim, the responses of residents during the interview.
  • Maintaining interview materials and keeping responses secure until turned in.
  • Must attend weekly check-in meetings with Center Staff.
  • Representing the CCYVP and the University of Chicago in a professional manner during all interactions with residents.
  • Must adhere to all safety precautions related to COVID 19.

This position will require approximately 10-15 hours per week. Work must be done in pairs - Applications received in pairs (that indicate another applicant as a preferred partner) will be prioritized.

  • Highly motivated, hard-working, and professional yet approachable demeanor required.
  • Organizational skills to schedule interviews and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to engaging residents and secure their participation in the project.
  • Ability to work in a two-member team required.
  • Ability to explain words, statements and questions during the interview without introducing bias.
  • Manage peer to peer, supervisor and resident interactions in a calm, professional manner.
  • Able and comfortable traveling throughout Metropolitan Chicago.

Additional Requirements


Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education:
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Experience:
  • 1 year Door-to-Door experience preferred.
  • Census taking or interview experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid Driver's License required.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Access to a car.
  • Late afternoon/one weekend day availability required.
