Job Summary:
Boise State University invites you to apply for the Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Avian Biology within the Department of Biological Sciences.

We seek candidates using innovative approaches to answer questions in the field of avian ecology or evolution. We are particularly interested in a faculty member who will help diversify strengths in areas such as molecular ecology/genomics, disease ecology, or avian physiology. Candidates should have a strong interest in collaborative research, inclusive mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, and teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Essential Functions:
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally-funded research program, supervise graduate students in the Raptor Biology MS program, Biology MS program, and Ecology, Evolution and Behavior (EEB) PhD program, and teach both graduate and undergraduate courses in our curriculum. The successful candidate will help build a diverse and inclusive environment in our dynamic and growing department, graduate programs, and university.

The successful avian biology candidate will also have the opportunity to affiliate with the Raptor Research Center (RRC, https://www.boisestate.edu/raptorresearchcenter/) within the College of Arts and Sciences at Boise State University. The RRC supports the Raptor Biology MS program, operates an NSF funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU Site) focused on raptor biology, secures extramural research and program grants to facilitate local and national scale raptor research, and collaborates with state and federal agency partners. The RRC manages a suite of funding opportunities, equipment, and a fleet of field research vehicles for faculty members and their students engaged in raptor research.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD and postdoctoral or equivalent experience in the field of avian biology
  • Evidence of the commitment to create a diverse and inclusive working environment (as demonstrated in the diversity statement)
  • Evidence of scholarly creativity and independence as demonstrated by extramural funding and a strong record of publication (as described in the research statement and curriculum vitae)
  • Evidence of teaching and/ or mentoring through the use of current pedagogical techniques, and experience and expertise in culturally responsive teaching to address equity gaps in courses and class rooms (as demonstrated in the teaching statement)

A competitive salary and benefits package is available. Salary will be for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty appointment. Department Overview:
The Department of Biological Sciences is at the forefront of Boise State University's mission to provide an innovative, transformative, and equitable educational and research environment. Research and Education:

Current ecology/evolution-related research programs include: patterns and processes of global change, raptor biology, animal behavior, invasive species, plant and animal physiology, conservation, and species interactions. Our partners collectively contribute expertise in remote sensing of terrestrial ecosystems, biogeochemistry, ecohydrologic and land-atmosphere modeling, human behavior, paleoecology, fire ecology, and land use science. Current evolutionary-related research programs include: evolutionary patterns and processes, conservation and functional genomics, and species diversity.
