Description:
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:1. According to established procedures, prepares examination area by ensuring cleanliness and supplies needed; ensures proper identification of the patient, escorts patient to the exam room and explains procedure to patient. Assists and monitors patient throughout the exam.2. Selects appropriate equipment and transducer setting, and adjusts equipment controls by hand or manipulation of remote control device according to specific orders and parts of body to be examined. 3. Observes sound wave display screen as scanning device moves over patients' body parts to detect pathologies and check for factors such as position, obstruction, change of shape and so forth; determines if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.4. Photographs visual image of organs shown on display modules. Records tests results, identification information and the like, and files results of sonography.5. Discusses test results with physicians or other departmental personnel. Repeats process as necessary.6. Assists physicians during sterile procedures such as amniocentesis, cyst puncture, thoracentesis, biopsies, and so forth.7. Ensures files and records are properly completed with all patient information and performs patient tracking in real time.8. Performs a variety of related clerical tasks such as retrieving previous ultrasound films, filing films, answering phones and relaying messages, completing exam requisitions, scheduling exams, and so forth.9. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition and ensures same is properly supplied for diagnostic procedures. Ensures sterile packaged supplies are not damaged or outdated. 10. Keeps current regarding developments, trends and techniques in ultrasound procedures, and equipment through appropriate technical journals or in-service and educational programs in order to maintain and enhance expertise. Maintains compliance in Joint Commission and/or regulatory requirements. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:1. Work requires the level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of an Associate's degree program in US Technology plus 3 months or less of on-the-job training and orientation.2. Registry eligible required. ARDMS Registered Abd/Pelvis preferred. May be required to become registered in multiple modalities.3. Work requires the analytical ability to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.4. Work requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in order to comfort patients and their families as well as explain clinical, technical and diagnostic procedures. Must be able to enforce policies and regulations in difficult situations, or performing other duties requiring a comparable level of communication skill.5. Provides direct patient care to neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS:1. Work requires the ability to communicate orally.2. Work requires the ability to reach and grasp objects as well as manual dexterity. Work requires the ability to enter words and data into a computer or similar device.3. May require lifting, standing, bending, transferring, stooping, stretching, walking, pushing, pulling up to and over 40 pounds; partial or complete assistance with activities of daily living without assistance from another health care worker.WORKING CONDITIONS:1. Requires exposure to blood and various body fluids which requires caution and use of established safety guidelines and equipment. Some stressful situations.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:1. Reports to the Manager. 2. Has responsibility for training/guiding students. May have responsibility for training new employees when requested.
