The Waubonsee Upward Bound program is accepting applications for part-time Tutors to work with high school participants at West Aurora High School, or East Aurora High School.

Upward Bound Tutors provide subject matter assistance, homework help, and demonstrate effective study and learning strategies, Other assistance may include reviewing class material, discussing text, reviewing test questions, generating ideas for papers, or working on solutions to problems. Additionally, they model the techniques, strategies, attitudes, and beliefs of successful learners.

This position requires excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to effectively use technology to enhance tutoring sessions.

Successful Upward Bound Tutors employ a holistic approach to student success, bring passion and enthusiasm to sessions, and collaborate with colleagues. They work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities.

Tutors are assigned a set schedule of one or multiple days depending on availability. Additional shifts assisting with monthly field trips are available.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate or Bachelor's degree required.

Proficient in tutoring subject area.

Experience teaching / tutoring at the high school or post-secondary level.
