Primary Purpose: The Career Pathways Case Manger is responsible for assisting eligible clients in developing and actualizing short- and long-term education and career goals. This includes developing materials, promoting awareness of programs in the community, networking with employers, identifying eligible clients, enrolling clients in the Career Pathways Program, helping clients develop individualized career pathway plans, identifying and overcoming potential barriers to goals on plan, developing relationships with educational programs, assisting clients in applying to financial assistance programs, advocating with employers and state officials, regularly contacting clients to track progress on clients’ career pathways plans, compiling data to submit to contractors, and completing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to supervisors, contractors, and partners.

Essential Duties:

  • Ensure all eligible clients have equal access to the career pathways development program regardless of gender, educational background, race, ethnicity, English proficiency, etc.
  • Provide individualized career development and career placement services to eligible program participants. Develop plan of action and counsel clients in areas such as barriers to be addressed (transportation, childcare, English proficiency, basic educational requirements), career educational requirements, courses available, funding sources available, resume building, entry level jobs, career advancement opportunities, resume writing, cover letters, job interview skills, expected behavior on the job, etc.
  • Work with eligible clients to remove barriers to their career development. Connect clients to in-house support and make referrals to external service providers.
  • Identify support services that may assist eligible clients in their career pathway such as ESL, transportation, legal services, childcare, career certification financial assistance programs, etc.
  • Assist eligible clients with identifying training programs related to their career goals and make referrals.
  • Help Identify job opportunities suitable for clients’ career plans. Assist clients in the application process.
  • Network with employers to better understand regional career opportunities, requirementsfor being hired, and the hiring process.
  • Follow-up with employers and clients after job placements to offer additional support as needed.
  • Regularly contact clients for the enrollment period to continue to problem solve and make sure that they remain on or adapt their career pathway next steps.
  • Document all contacts and services in client case files and maintain case note logs. In addition to documenting all services, record clients’ career pathways related progress in case file, including compliance, classes, funding documentation, job offers, follow-up on class progress, job placements, and next steps. Complete all required forms and reports.
  • Track program spending and program budgets.
  • Address emergency situations as they arise and mediate conflict as necessary.
  • Conduct regular reviews of client case files to ensure quality in service provision and fulfillment of documentation requirements.
  • Responsible for collecting data and submitting required monthly, quarterly and annual reports to contractor.
  • Collect relevant data and report to Employment Services Coordinator on a monthly basis.
  • Engage in on-site monitoring visits conducted by CWS/IRP national staff and/or federal and state partners.
  • Keep informed about refugee and immigrant issues, and available services to refugees, using current information to better identify and serve refugee clients.
  • Advocate on behalf of refugees, and refugee-serving voluntary agencies. Meet regularly, collaborate, and cooperate with other local refugee service coalitions.
  • Represent the program at meetings and speaking engagements relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Undertake client assessments, job counseling, job placement and follow-up.
  • Work varied hours, including some night and weekend work.
  • Valid drivers’ license, clean driving record and suitable vehicle for transporting clients required.

Qualifications:

Experience:The successful candidate must have a minimum of one year’s previous work experience in refugee or immigrant-related services, providing familiarity with U.S. refugee and/or immigration issues and terminology. A background in case management or human service delivery is desirable. An understanding of the regional economy and employment and educational opportunities is desirable.

Skills:
  • Language fluency in written and spoken refugee language that is common in the Harrisonburg region preferred.
  • Knowledge of the regional immigrant community preferred.
  • Keen understanding of gender equity issues and equitable career pathways implementation.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and willingness to supportCWS’ Platform on Racial Justiceas a CWS employee required.
  • Able to communicate in English thoroughly and with self-confidence a broad range of information relating to program or department.
  • Communicate in English detailed and/or technical information clearly, in writing and orally.
  • Speak publicly in English with defined constituencies regarding specific assigned topics.
  • Anticipate constituent needs and interests and take proactive steps to respond to them.
  • Promote “transparency of information” by sharing relevant information with staff and other stakeholders.

Education & Certifications:University or college degree preferred

Special Requirements:
  • It is required to maintain full COVID Vaccination status and comply with all CDC guidelines.
  • Authorization to work in the US required.
  • This is an in-person position located in Harrisonburg, VA.
  • The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office and internet applications.
  • A valid driver’s license is also required, along with the ability to move furniture and donations. The candidate will be expected to transport clients in their own vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed) and must have a reliable working car for this purpose.
  • The successful candidate must pass a background check.

  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
  • This position is primarily in the office and community.
  • During busy times other duties may be assigned.
