Job Summary:

As a member of the Executive Leadership team for US Oncology Business Division, the Vice President, US Medical Affairs will actively contribute to the creation, championing, and execution of the strategic direction and long-term vision for the Company. Decisions will have significant impact on profitability and long-term growth of DSI. The position will lead the Medical Affairs organization with 100+ employees which is responsible for providing impactful medical support to the organization for launched and late-stage clinical products across a broad spectrum of oncology therapeutic areas. Medical Affairs activities within the department include Phase IIIb and IV clinical research; outcomes research; publication planning; medical and product-related information; continuing education; Medical Affairs compliance, oversight to the field-based Medical Liaison group; and medical review of promotional materials, grants, and publications. This position will inform and develop the scientific strategy to extend the life cycle and therapeutic range of DS products, thereby driving additional profitability and long-term growth while maintaining scientific integrity. The incumbent will have overall accountability and responsibility for generating and communicating accurate and meaningful medical and scientific information regarding all products. To accomplish these objectives the VP, Medical Affairs must also effectively collaborate with Clinical Development, Global Medical Affairs, Commercial functions and other stakeholders to provide impactful scientific support for the Company's brands. As leader of the US Medical Affairs, this role is a key face of DSI Oncology to the external medical community.

Responsibilities:

Serves as Lead medical advisor for the for the US OBD. Responsible for leading the medical and scientific support to all marketed products at Daiichi Sankyo. Lead the scientific effort that enables the company to achieve product market/sales objectives with scientific credibility.

Lead the US Medical Affairs organization and ensure medical and scientific input to the strategies for all approved and late stage products at Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. Ensure alignment with the business, Global functions as well as R&D. Oversight and accountability for the Medical Operating Plan and budgets.

Lead and manage the teams responsible for Real World Evidence and Health Outcomes Research and any additional research activities necessary to support our products. Provide strategic input into the development and approval of Phase IIIb/IV trials in collaboration with global internal stakeholders. Overall accountability and responsibility for generating and communicating accurate and meaningful medical and scientific information regarding all products. Lead competitive intelligence activities of Medical Affairs, thereby creating awareness of competitor activities and scientific data generated in the relevant therapeutic areas. Ensure the timely initiation and completion of research projects as well as the accurate dissemination of data necessary to maximize the value of all products at Daiichi Sankyo.

Lead and manage the teams responsible for accurate disclosure of data and clinical information regarding all products at Daiichi Sankyo as well as lead and oversee Field Medical Affairs activities. Interact with key members of the medical community to assist in understanding current practice issues for strategically important therapeutic areas. Ensure alignment with other parts of the organization.

Lead all US Medical Affairs interactions with alliance partners and serve on key alliance governing committees.

As requested, will review and sign off responsibilities for SOPs, clinical trial protocols, and product labeling. Responsible for ensuring departmental compliance to all laws, rules, and regulations.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will be able to meet the qualifications below with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Education/Experience:

  • MD (or equivalent) preferred
  • Board Certification in a related field and relevant association memberships (e.g., ASCO, AACR, CAP, ASH,)
  • oncology or related therapeutic disease experience
  • Post-graduate residency and/or fellowship training or equivalent experience
  • 10 or more years of clinical/research/academic experience,
  • 10 or more years of pharmaceutical industry experience in Medical Affairs, strategically utilizing scientific data in various educational forums (e.g., grand rounds, symposia, consultant meetings, advisory boards, etc.).
  • Proven track record of working successfully with cross-functional teams to achieve business results.
  • successfully developing and implementing tactical business plans and project proposals in the assigned therapeutic areas.
  • experience managing departmental budgets.
  • experience managing scientific staff.
