TEST LEAD - Video Games

Duties and Responsibilities

The Test Lead is responsible for directing the day to day tasks and responsibilities of assigned Test Associates and Software Test Engineer direct reports (1-40). Works under the supervision of Senior Test Lead or Test Manager

Core responsibilities:

  • Author comprehensive test plans with guidance of senior leads
  • Execute staffing plans as defined by senior leadership
  • Develop and execute staffing schedule (Work hours and Overtime schedule) to meet project demands
  • Contribute to budget planning with guidance of senior leads
  • Development of project milestone and test schedule roadmap with guidance of more experienced leads and MS Lead
  • Execute on defined test schedule road map
  • Identify Risks to budget planning, project schedule, test deliverables, staffing, and hardware/floor space planning with guidance of senior leads
  • Develop mitigation strategies to identified risks with guidance of more experienced leads
  • Facilitate STE-driven initiatives as Lead Sponsor
Test Methodology:
  • Knowledgeable of advanced testing techniques and methodologies
  • Knowledgeable of testing best practices
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, black box software testing principles
  • Knowledgeable of game development cycle using waterfall or Agile development models
  • Knowledgeable of game development cycle for a minimum of one product type
Reporting:
  • Knowledgeable of advanced test metrics and reports
  • Familiar with data analysis and capable of identify bug trends and gaps in test coverage
  • Proactive in identifying areas requiring additional testing through product specification reviews
  • Responsible for the delivery of daily project status reports to the client as applicable
  • Responsible for authoring and delivering weekly project status reports to the client
  • Consistent in adhering to, defining, and improving upon best practices in reporting and visual representation of data
  • Responsible for delivery of project post mortem at the end of a test cycle
  • Responsible for the delivery of milestone acceptance report
  • Responsible for the delivery of build verification reports as applicable
  • Responsible for the delivery of test coverage reporting
Problem Diagnosis:
  • Perform advanced problem diagnosis
    * Can solve advanced problems independently
    * Assist TAs and STEs with advanced configuration issues
Test Tools and Technology
  • Partner with senior leads and SDETs to develop technology plan
  • Perform research and analysis as appropriate for assigned projects on new technology/tools/operating environments that offer improvements in test efficiency
    * Perform analysis of automated test results
    * Expert knowledge of performance monitoring tools and software
    * Capable of learning new platform / architecture technology as appropriate for assigned project
    * Maintain ownership of bug reporting database and proactive in monitoring quality of bug entry, bugs assigned for regression or additional information, and integrity of resolutions
    * Maintain ownership of test case management solutions and proactive in monitoring the quality of test cases to ensure complete coverage and comprehensive coverage reporting
Certification Testing:
  • Knowledgeable of certification processes and proven ability to interpret and apply requirements across various styles of gameplay
    * Knowledgeable of tools/software required for certification testing
    * Partner with Development and Production to request waivers to certification bugs
    * Analyze and communicate the severity of certification bugs and provide recommended solutions
Required skills/qualifications and experience:
  • Strong to advanced knowledge of personal computers and operating systems required
    * Can perform basic computer configuration and/or application compatibility and setup when applicable
    * Demonstrated ability to define and use common terms and concepts for at least one operating system and environment required
    * Experienced with multiple bug reporting software solutions
    * Experienced with test case management software
    * Expert knowledge of MS Office Suite
    * Familiarity of Windows interface guidelines may be required.
    * Proven ability to communicate professionally in written communication both internal and external to Experis
Work experience:
  • Minimum 5 years' experience leading test teams up to 40 people
    OR
    * Completed minimum of 10 full size/scope shipped game titles as a Test Lead or Manager
