Job Description Summary
The Violence Intervention Specialist (VIS) will provide trauma-informed peer mentorship for violently injured individuals treated at Penn Trauma. The VIS will provide peer mentorship to enrolled patients, working with them to identify needs and personal and community risk factors for recurrent violent involvement. The VIS will collaborate with community partner agencies to provide resources and support for needs and risk factors identified. Although individual needs will vary, topics will include psychological, social and system issues of trauma recovery, life goal setting, behavioral change, and increasing connections to school, family, social supports, and social services. The VIS will provide assistance in navigating medical, legal and financial issues related to the patient's injury.
The VIS will engage with clients via office, phone, and home visits and will collaborate with a broad interdisciplinary team at Penn Trauma. The VIS will maintain records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations and program requirements. They may provide education and ongoing updates to hospital staff while maintaining ongoing relationships with community partner agencies, including providing program update presentations. VIP will establish new partnerships with community organizations with the goal of increasing support services available for enrolled patients. The VIS will assist with Trauma Prevention and Outreach Program community outreach activities, attend community events representing Penn Trauma to increase program visibility and networking in the community. Additionally, the VIA will assist Trauma Program Manager and Injury Prevention Coordinator in maintain ongoing communication with local law enforcement and community agencies involved with violence intervention and prevention.

Bachelor's Degree with 2-3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
