Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

  • This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week

The Role

The VIP Functional Architect Technical Lead represents a challenging technical leadership position within Electrical Controls Division related to the development and launch of electrical architecture solutions. This position is responsible for creating, communicating, managing the strategy and process to execute the Electrical Architecture System Design. The role contains a high level of responsibility with limited formal authority, providing excellent opportunities for developing and honing the skill of influencing others. In addition, this position includes a high level of written and oral communication with higher levels of leadership such as directors and executives.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a product manager and primary interface with customers (Functional Architects, Domain architects, Diagnostics Architects, Network Architects and System Architects Specification owners) over the Architecture Artifacts execution process
  • Lead and drive design decisions within the VIP (Vehicle Intelligence Platform) functional system design process
  • Champion regular strategic forums within Architect stakeholders to identify needs, continues improvements, document best practices and develop road map and for the long-term system design modeling strategies covering functional partitioning, Diagnostics &Network artifacts and interdependencies
  • Provide architecture infrastructure leadership ensuring optimal process across all domains and timely issue resolution to enable future and fast to market technologies and features
  • Acts as business owner of VIP architect process within Tools and Process ARTs
  • Drive adoption of the corporate design tools and processes within the System Design Team (Functional, Diagnostics and Network) synchronizing the deployment of architecture levels (Data Dictionary) with changes required to meet customer needs
  • Collaborate with ECU Design Responsible Engineers (DREs), Tier-1 Suppliers, functional safety, and Systems Engineers to ensure component deployment is consistent with system design intent through formal design reviews and other activities
  • Stay abreast of new technology and competitive products
  • Maintain system design work instructions and process documentation updated according to latest and greatest definitions
  • Develop and maintain list of instructions and trainning sections required to allow fast engagement of new Functional Architect team members

Additional Job Description

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Math or Computer Science
  • 2+ years of relevant design, development, or validation experience in the areas of automotive interfaces definition, system design, software modeling, software engineering definition, power distribution, energy storage, charging systems, or power electronics
  • Robust knowledge of major automotive subsystems
  • Experience with physical system definition including mechanization design
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unique and complex
  • Ability to proactively suggest improvements in work methodology
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency with tools including IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC), Doors, Rhapsody and Big Level Gears
  • Proficiency with industry standards including AUTOSAR, CAN, LIN, and automotive ethernet
  • Ability to coordinate and complete tasks per a release schedule
  • Ability to identify non-compliance to standards and resolve the issue
  • Lead by influence

Desired Skills
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering
  • 5+ years of relevant design, development, or validation experience in the areas of automotive interfaces definition, system design, software modeling, software engineering definition, power distribution, energy storage, charging systems, or power electronics
  • Experience writing clear, valid requirements in Doors
  • Experience on ISO certification Process
  • Considerable expertise as a system engineer in complex systems and organizational structure
  • Experience in a direct or indirect leadership role
  • DFSS Black Belt Certified
  • SAFE AGILE Certified
  • Experience in GM electrical design methodologies and tool chains
