Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a Warrior Marketplace Kitchen Manager position at the Walla Walla campus.

General Description:

The Wine Country Culinary Institute seeks a passionate candidate for the Warrior Marketplace Kitchen Manager position. The candidate must possess a keen display of professionalism, a positive attitude and have a passion towards taking ownership in this position. The Kitchen Manager collaborates with the Director of Culinary Arts, Culinary Arts Program Faculty and the Coordinator of Campus Events to manage the Warrior Marketplace Food Service program.

The Kitchen Manager must have a thorough knowledge of food service operations. The position is a hands-on role which involves competency in a wide variety of areas. Responsibilities will include supervision of kitchen-related operations, menu development, financial oversight for food service operations including purchasing and receiving, inventory control, food preparations and service formats for both food and beverages and customer care. The Kitchen Manager will provide an optimal level of leadership and guidance to students and staff while meeting customer expectations, food safety and hygiene standards, and financial targets in support of the mission and goals of the college. This position reports directly to the Director of Culinary Arts.



Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of WWCC dining services, including sales, purchasing, receiving, storage and quality maintenance of inventory and customer care.
  • Mange the daily food service piece of the Warrior Marketplace through menu development, product procurement, menu execution, staffing, and budget control.
  • Offer nutritiously balanced, healthy menu items. Pay attention to dietary restrictions when developing the menu.
  • Quality management and execution of service for all internal campus events
  • Provide excellent customer service to encourage repeat business.
  • Work hand in hand with the Director of Culinary Arts and the Coordinator of Campus Events.
  • Oversight of budgets and food cost operating margins, maintain efficient operation of all college food service facilities.
  • Ensure safety and HACCP sanitation procedures are followed through the flow of food from receipt to service, including the mobile kitchen (Food Truck)
  • Required to operate, maintain, and integrate the mobile kitchen (Food Truck).
  • Interview, screen and hire part-time personnel as budgeted and required by the operation.
  • Budget for and schedule paid staff hours and assign duties.
  • Be fiscally responsible by developing, maintaining, and revising menu and pricing to maintain profitability.
  • Work with Business Services and the Administration to develop subsidized menu offerings pertaining to students and related food insecurities.
  • Schedule, train and supervise part-time and student staff.
  • Monitor the quality of the product and service provided.
  • Maintain stock levels and order new supplies as required.
  • Organize, prepare and execute internal catering events
  • Coordinate menu production and product utilization with the Warrior Marketplace and program instruction to reduce food costs and increase a return on investment.
  • As requested by the Director of Culinary Arts, will support the instruction entities of the college/program.
  • Oversight, hiring and supervision of food service staff.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with individuals and groups clearly, effectively, and efficiently within and outside of the organization.
  • Possess the ability to execute events of 150+ persons providing timely execution of food production and preparation.
  • Basic understanding of computer skills including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Recognize and support the value of cultural, ethnic, gender and other individual diversities.


  • Qualifications:

    Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.
  • Culinary Arts Degree
  • Three to five years progressively responsible food service experience
  • Two years in a management/supervisory role
  • Experience with fiscal oversight
  • Customer service experience
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Washington State Food Handlers Permit required
  • Alcohol Server Permit (MAST) and Servsafe Certification desired


  • Conditions/Terms of Employment

    This is a full-time overtime eligible professional position. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Official college transcripts required at time of hire. Candidates may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition of employment. Information from the background check may not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. The college is a tobacco free institution.



    Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel Required:
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds with the use of hand trucks, dollies and other aids.
  • Ability to stand on your feet for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to drive a trailer food truck or willing to learn.


  • Compensation:

    Annual salary range: $60,000-65,000. The college has an excellent benefit program including paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). All administrative exempt staff set aside 1% of their gross salary in a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) (VEBA). All exempt employees are required to participate in this program. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
