Length of Contract: This is for the 2024/2025 School Year; position starts around the end of August 2024 through June 2025.

The role of a Wilson Reading Program Teacher is crucial in supporting students with language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia. Let's delve into the qualifications and responsibilities associated with this role:
Responsibilities:

  • Implementing the Wilson Reading System (WRS) Curriculum:
    • The teacher ensures fidelity in delivering the WRS curriculum to meet individual student needs.
  • Assessing Student Levels and Needs:
    • Conducting thorough assessments to identify students' reading levels, strengths, and areas for growth.
  • Personalized Lesson Planning:
    • Developing and implementing personalized lesson plans and instructional strategies tailored to each student's unique needs and learning styles.
  • Multisensory Instruction:
    • Providing explicit, systematic, and multisensory instruction in phonemic awareness, decoding, encoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.
  • Monitoring Student Progress:
    • Regularly assessing student progress through ongoing data collection and adjusting instruction accordingly.
  • Collaboration:
    • Collaborating with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other stakeholders to support students' literacy development across various settings.
  • Record Keeping:
    • Maintaining accurate records of student progress, interventions, and instructional materials.
  • Professional Development:
    • Participating in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in literacy instruction, including ongoing training in the Wilson Reading System.
  • Effective Communication:
    • Communicating effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for supporting reading development at home.
  • Flexibility and Travel:
    • Being willing to travel within the school district to provide services at multiple school sites as needed.
  • Qualifications:
  • Education Background:
    • A bachelor's degree in education, Special Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Certification:
    • Certification in Wilson Reading System Level I or higher.
  • Experience:
    • Experience working with students with language-based learning disabilities, particularly dyslexia.
  • Evidence-Based Practices:
    • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in literacy instruction.
