Your Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the company as a Downstream Senior Engineer, a critical role within the BioContinuum™ Platform Applications & Innovation team. This team is working at bench-scale towards the convergence of process, analytical, and digital technologies to pioneer a facility of the future for continuous biomanufacturing. As an integral team member, you will drive the development of intensified processes through the design and execution of lab-based experiments in the areas of advanced downstream processing, including connection of downstream purification trains to perfusion production processes, continuous chromatography and filtration operations, and advanced control methods utilizing next generation sensors. As a senior member of the team, you will help shape our downstream strategy in intensified and continuous biomanufacturing by leveraging your industrial experience and understanding of manufacturing pain points and bottlenecks to propose new project concepts, to align objectives and project plans with key stakeholders, and to execute on project plans. Finally, you will disseminate key experimental results by supporting internal and external thought leadership activities.

Who You Are

Minimum qualifications:

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or related science; PhD with 2+ years or MS with 4+ years or BS with 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong background and practical hands-on experience with purification and product quality analytical techniques, particularly for CHO cell-based processes and monoclonal antibodies
  • Experience operating small and large-scale protein purification systems, including filtration, chromatography, clarification, and other unit operations, including the development of automation and control strategies
  • Experience in statistical design of experiments (DoE) coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to solve problems creatively and contribute to innovation in product and process development

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with continuous bioprocessing operations is highly desired
  • Experience with lab-based automation and data processing software such as LabView and MATLAB is a plus
  • Experience with on-line/at-line analytics (ie Raman spectroscopy, automated sampling, etc) is a plus
  • Working knowledge of pharmaceutical/biotechnology regulatory and quality issues including GMP regulations and QbD principles is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet project deliverables and timelines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to present at internal and external meetings and produce publication-quality documentation
  • Ability to work on multi-disciplinary teams in a matrix environment
  • Proven track record in successfully working in a team-based environment
